Beauty

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
But what if they cannot see?
All around them is darkness,
So where can the beauty be?

A child sees beauty everywhere,
An elder sees it in the young.
Some see no beauty anywhere,
And tell it with a flapping tongue.

But what of others who see no light,
The ones who should feel despair.
They see beauty where others dont
In friendships true and fair.

Beautys there if you look,
Beyond the naked sight.
Close your eyes and look again,
And you may see the light.

Friendship is a beautiful thing,
The beauty is not skin deep.
Look beneath what others see,
And you're a friend to keep.

I wrote this poem to try to explain that beauty is NOT skin deep, that each one of us has to look beneath the surface to see what is really there. Friendship should not be based on looks or clothes or status. It should be based on common interests, and it should be based on what you can't see with the naked eye, but what you can see with your heart.
